Austin is awsome. The first day we got there, there were all kinds of crazy a-holes around the University, jumping in front of cars, and yelling at drivers. What's with the hostility? Oh, they're trying to sell me tickets to a football game. Is this how football fans like to be approached by scalpers? Jeezum Crow! Anyway, we parked in the heart of downtown, and walked to a Starbucks. The employees at this Starbucks were the best employees you could ask for. The beautiful girl who made my grande Strawberries & Cream frappuccino kept making eyes at me, the nice guy who took my payment complimented my drink choice as well as my watch, and then the girl gave me directions to a nearby movie theater playing Steamboy. Austin's parking situation is bad. Eventually, we found parking, and went into this student center / mall thing (the Dobie), and were immediately impressed. Not only did it house an indy movie theater, there was also a nice arcade, a food court with televisions playing The Shadow on the Sci Fi network for the watching vagrants, and students, and the coolest comic store ever. A comic store with young ladies behind the counter? Shocking. They carried all comics, mainstream, independant, what have you. Very impressive. Travis Nichols, whose house we would soon be sleeping in, had some comics on the shelf there too. Anyway, then we saw Steamboy. It sucked big time. S'all I'm gonna say. Then we had some Taco Cabana, and headed out to the nearest rest area just outside of Austin for the night. The next day, we had a delicious burrito at Chipotle. Oh, how I wish Chipotle was in New Mexico. Yet another reason to move. After Chipotle, we met up with Travis, and met his roomates (Shannon, Tiffin, and Brian). We took a trip out to bat bridge with Trav at this point. Bat bridge is the largest urban bat colony. Pretty cool, but doesn't compare to Carlsbad Caverns. After getting back, we headed out to a Vegetarian / Vegan restaurant. Mother's perhaps? Mother's was one of two such vegan friendly joints Travis took us to. I don't know if it was the first or second. Anyhoo, the food was good, the company was good. Then we drank and played UNO back at the house until we went to bed. The next day consisted of more chilling out, more vegan eating. We watched Logan's Run, I composed a song on Trav's keyboard, and we went to Lucil's last show. Good times were had by all. Krista was super nice, and got Nick and I onto the show's list, so we didn't have to pay the 10 dollar cover. After the show, we said our goodbyes and went back to Trav's place. Travis and I talked comics until we fell asleep, and then the next morning we got up and drove home. Slight detour. As a result of the bad sign-age of Texas, I ended up driving to Oklahoma City on the way home...Luckily I-40 intersects there, so it was smooth sailing once we got the hell out of OK city, which has bad sign-age rivaling Texas. |
